Abstract. The past year, 2014, marked the 50th anniversary of the derivation of the celebrated Bell's inequality, an event which has been celebrated by many institutions and editors over all the world. Since I had quite strict contacts with John in the last period of his life, and since he has taken an active part in ICTP's 25th anniversary conference, I consider it useful to devote a colloquium to this great scientist and to briefly recall his scientific achievements and our personal relations. The talk will be essentially biographical and non technical, with the exception of a very small part in which I will reconsider the issue of quantum nonlocality. Particular attention will be given to our personal contacts and to his visit to ICTP.
