Scientific Calendar Event

Description
The Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Trieste, Italy is organizing the 8th International Conference on the Exact Renormalization Group - ERG2016 to be held in Trieste, Italy from 19 - 23 September 2016.

The ERG conferences, held every second year, are dedicated to the "exact", or "functional" Renormalization Group and its applications. Various forms of such ERG equations have been proposed over time by Wilson, Polchinski, Wetterich and others. They are slowly becoming central to our understanding of quantum field theory and prove especially useful in the study of non-perturbative phenomena. Steven Weinberg said of Wilson's pioneering work on the RG that it "changed the way we all think, not just about specific phenomena, but about a vast range of different phenomena."

Topics to be covered:
Fundamental interactions:
The Standard model and beyond, QCD, Quantum gravity;
Nuclear physics;
Condensed matter and statistical physics;
Strongly correlated fermions;
Critical and quantum critical phenomena;
Systems out of equilibrium.

The ERG is thus a truly interdisciplinary tool and the ERG conference is a unique meeting where practitioners working on different physical problems can fruitfully exchange ideas and methods.
