Abstract. In this talk I will discuss a conjectural duality between topological string theory and quantum mechanics. This correspondence provides a Fermi gas picture of topological strings which is non-perturbative and background independent. Mathematically, these results lead to a new family of solvable problems in spectral theory and provide a new relation between enumerative geometry and spectral theory.
