DESCRIPTION:\n \n -------------------------------------------------------
-------\n Organised in partnership with the Clay Mathematics Institute\n
--------------------------------------------------------------\n \n Please
note thatSchool related material\n (abstracts\, slides/notes as received
by lectureres\,\n and video recording of most School lectures)\n can be vi
ewed & downloaded directly from this site\,\n see list of links on the lef
t of this page\, as follows:\n - either by clicking on the link "Programme
" and scrolling it down\n (i.e. in chronological order)\,\n or\n - by cl
icking on the link "Speakers"\n (i.e. sets of lectures grouped by lecturer
).In addition\, video recording of lectures is also available on a dedicat
ed playlist on ICTP YouTube Channel:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2msDse
BIAeI&list=PLLq_gUfXAnknsg-mI5B1OmZfOuqZls0dK* * *\n \n\n The School aim
s at introducing students both to the basic ideas and to the most recent
breakthroughs in the field of extrinsic curvature flows\, a fundamental r
esearch direction at the intersection of Analysis and Geometry\, with deep
connections to the theories of minimal surfaces and of diffusive partial
differential equations.\n Extrinsic flows have important applications to t
he geometry of submanifolds\, as their study provides an effective strateg
y for obtaining topological classification results and for proving sharp g
eometric inequalities.\n In a broader context\, extrinsic flows arise in d
escribing the dynamics of interfaces in physical and biological sciences\,
a fact that provides a strong scientific motivation for their mathematica
l inquiry.\n Virtually all the different approaches to mean curvature flow
s will be accounted for\, with particular emphasis on the fundamental prob
lem of singularities formation.\n A major goal of the School will indeed b
e putting the best students in the position of understanding the many open
problems in the field.\n\nLIST OF LECTURERS\nS. Angenent\, University of
