Abstract. I will consider some physical aspects of a new class of G2-holonomy spaces recently constructed by Foscolo, Haskins and Nordstrom. These geometries are constructed as circle bundles over a local Calabi-Yau, with an appropriate geometric condition on the first Chern class on this bundle. I will explain how this condition naturally appears as the vacuum condition of the four dimensional N=1 gauge theory we get by compactifying type IIA string theory on the Calabi-Yau. I will also discuss the geometric transition and how these vacua relate to flat connections in an (S)U(N) theory on a quotient of the deformed conifold, framed within an M-theory perspective.
