Description The Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP, Italy) and the Costa Rica Institute of Technology (TEC, Costa Rica) will jointly organize a Latin-American FPGA  School on Advanced Instrumentation, to be held in Santa Clara, Costa Rica, from 1 to 19 December 2014. The last three days of the school will be dedicated to the first regional Conference on Advanced Instrumentation (CRIA 2014) to be also held at Costa Rica TEC from 17 to 19 December 2014. PURPOSE OF THE SCHOOL
The aim of school is to introduce physicists, engineers, computer scientists and other scientists to FPGA design methodologies focusing applications in scientific instrumentation. The school will represent a unique opportunity for many of the participants to gain skills for designing and developing complete high performance systems for scientific applications at low cost. Since the main barrier to exploit this technology is knowledge, this school will contribute to generate know how through hands-on experimental activities with state of the art hardware and software. The participants will count on international highly qualified lecturers and laboratory assistants who are selected professionals from academy, research centers and industry. This will contribute to provide a balanced perception and deeper understanding about limitations, trends and potentialities of this key technology. The School will contain about 35 hours of lectures and 35 hours of tutorials and assisted hands on laboratory sessions. During the last three days of the school, the selected applicants will also participate to the first regional conference on advanced instrumentation (CRIA 2014). It is expected to enhance the capabilities of researchers, teachers, and engineers in exploiting cost-effective programmable logic devices for their instrumentation needs and R&D for scientific and academic purposes. By promoting networking and open international collaborations and by stimulating a community of experimental scientists with the necessary skills and willingness to contribute to collaborative open hardware/software research projects, this school will contribute to alleviate the lack of stimuli and isolation that typically afflicts many professionals from developing countries.

El Centro Internacional de Física Teórica Abdus Salam (ICTP, Italia ) y el Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica (TEC) organizarán conjuntamente la 
Escuela Latinoamericana de FPGA en Instrumentación Avanzada que se celebrará en Santa Clara, Costa Rica, del 1 al 19 diciembre, 2014. Los tres últimos días de la Escuela estarán dedicados a la Primera Conferencia Regional sobre Instrumentación Avanzada (CRIA 2014 http://cria2014.instrumentacionavanzada.net/) que también se celebrará en el TEC del 17 al 19 diciembre de 2014

Objetivo de la Escuela
Introducir físicos, ingenieros , informáticos y otros científicos experimentales a las metodologías de diseño de FPGA con énfasis en aplicaciones en instrumentación científica. La Escuela representará una oportunidad única para muchos de los participantes para adquirir habilidades de diseño y desarrollo de sistemas de alta complejidad y bajo costo para aplicaciones científicas y de educación superior.
Dado que la principal barrera para explotar esta tecnología es el conocimiento, esta Escuela contribuirá a generar know-how por medio de actividades experimentales con hardware y software de última generación. Los participantes contarán con profesores y asistentes internacionales altamente calificados provenientes del mundo académico, científico e industrial, contribuyendo de este modo a proporcionar una percepción equilibrada y una comprensión más profunda acerca de las limitaciones, tendencias y potencialidades de esta tecnología clave.
La Escuela prevé aproximadamente 35 horas de clases teóricas y 35 horas de prácticas de laboratorio con supervisión y asistencia técnica. Como parte de la escuela, los últimos tres días , serán dedicados a la participación a la Primera Conferencia Regional sobre Instrumentación Avanzada (CRIA 2014).
Como resultado principal se espera mejorar las capacidades de investigadores , profesores, e ingenieros en la explotación de dispositivos lógicos programables para sus necesidades de investigación y desarrollo de instrumentación avanzada. También se espera promover la creación de redes y colaboraciones internacionales para proyectos de hardware y software abiertos. La Escuela se propone paliar la falta de estímulos y aislamiento que frecuentemente afecta a muchos profesionales en países en vías de desarrollo.
