Physics Without Frontiers has partnered with Mr. Vikram Upadhyay, a former scientist at CERN, to organize a 5-day long workshop to promote science education for girls in Nepal. CREASION Nepal, National Innovation Center, and UNESCO Nepal will be the organizing partners for this workshop. This project will select 20 girls from the Madhesh province of Nepal to attend a 5-day long residential program in Kathmandu where they will get exposed to different research work happening in Nepal as well as academic/career opportunities in Nepal and abroad. They will also get to interact with researchers, including former CERN scientists, and local university students. They will attend lectures and workshops on various topics aimed at the scientific way of looking at the world. Trips to science museums, observatories, and research centers will also be organized. The motivation behind this project is to encourage girls from marginalized regions to pursue higher studies in Science, and get them informed about the academic and career opportunities in it. The workshop will promote curiosity, logical thinking, and the scientific method of approaching problems. The workshop will also provide the attendees with networking opportunities with universities, research institutes, and inspiring role-models. The biggest impact of this project will be that the participating girls will discover opportunities in Science and learn how to best prepare themselves to excel in the world of Science.
