11th Workshop on the Theory and Use of Regional Climate Models | (smr 3881)
Starts 2 Oct 2023
Ends 6 Oct 2023
Central European Time
ICTP
Kastler Lecture Hall (AGH)
Riva Massimiliano e Carlotta, Grignano
I - 34151 Trieste (Italy))
The workshop will provide both theoretical lectures and hands-on sessions on the theory of regional climate modeling and the use of regional climate models (RCMs), and more specifically the ICTP RegCM system, which is one of the most used in the world, especially by scientists from developing countries. This edition of the workshop will be focused on the description and use of the recently developed latest version of the ICTP RCM, RegCM5, which includes a number of improvements compared to the previous RegCM4 version, particularly in the area of model dynamics and numerics.
Topics of the workshop include:
The theory of regional climate modeling
Regional modeling at convection permitting resolutions
Regional climate change simulations
Climate extreme and hazards
The RegCM5 system
The participants will be expected to complete group projects with the RegCM5 system during the workshop and to report the outcomes of the project on the last day.
This activity supports the international program CORDEX, which has the goal, among others, to enhance the capability of developing country scientists to carry out climate modeling research.
It is expected that the participants to the 11th RegCM Workshop also attend the preceding International Conference on Regional Climate ICRC-CORDEX 2023, 25-29 Sept 2023; https://indico.ictp.it/event/10212/
