ICTP Colloquium by Dr. Agnese Bissi (ICTP): "The conformal bootstrap: from boiling water to quantum gravity".
Starts 15 Mar 2023 16:00
Ends 15 Mar 2023 17:30
Central European Time
Agnese Bissi recently joined the ICTP High Energy, Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics (HECAP) Faculty.
Agnese Bissi is Associate Professor of Theoretical Physics at Uppsala University (SWE). Following her PhD from the Niels Bohr Institute within the University of Copenhagen (DK), she was selected for two prestigious Post-Docs: the first at the Mathematical Institute of the University of Oxford (UK) and a second one at the Center for the Fundamental Laws of Nature of the Harvard University (USA). In the period 2017-2020 she held the position of Assistant Professor at the Uppsala University (SWE).
Her research interests include conformal field theories and quantum gravity theories with particular interest to the conformal bootstrap. In the last 10 years, Agnese Bissi has been invited to present her ground breaking research more than 200 times, at international conferences and university seminars in Europe, USA, South America and Asia.
Agnese Bissi has taught in the PhD courses at the Amsterdam-Brussels-Geneva-Paris Doctoral School and at the Queen Mary University of London. She has supervised 9 students between Master and PhD students.
Abstract: Conformal field theories are ubiquitous in theoretical physics, and they are used to describe phenomena from statistical to high-energy physics. In this talk, Agnese Bissi will present the conformal bootstrap, a powerful tool to constrain and solve conformal field theories using consistency conditions and symmetries. She will discuss recent developments on applying the conformal bootstrap to a class of conformal field theories that are dual to quantum gravity theories.
The title of the Colloquium is "The conformal bootstrap: from boiling water to quantum gravity".
The event will take place in the Budinich Lecture Hall on the ICTP campus. Light refreshments will be served after the talk. All are welcome to attend.
The talk will also be livestreamed from the ICTP website.
