Description

Beatriz Helena COGOLLO-OLIVO
(University of Cartagena, Applied Math Institute, Cartagena de Indias, Colombia)

This seminar provides an in-depth overview of an ongoing research project focused on the development and deployment of an IoT prototype for measuring physico-chemical parameters and detecting pollutants in water bodies near Cartagena, Colombia. The project showcases the remarkable progress achieved through collaborative efforts among scientists, engineers, and environmental experts, successfully integrating functional materials modeling, sensor development, and IoT technology.

By adopting a multidisciplinary approach, this project combines the strength of computational materials modeling and experimental sensor development to create a comprehensive solution for water quality monitoring. Special emphasis is placed on the customized sensors, tailored to identify prioritized pollutants in water bodies. Furthermore, the integration with IoT technology enables the development of a networked system where data from various sensors can be collected, transmitted, and analyzed in real time.
