Description

An ICTP 60th anniversary satellite event

An ICTP meeting in Macao-China, Special Administrative Region

TinyML is a new technology that allows machine learning models to run on low-cost, low-power microcontrollers. This technology has a significant role to play in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and in enabling new applications in fields such as healthcare, agriculture, environmental monitoring and conservation.

The rise of TinyML has opened new opportunities for developing intelligent, low-power devices in resource-constrained environments. In recent years, TinyML has gained significant attention from researchers, developers, and industries due to its potential for enabling new applications in fields such as healthcare, agriculture, transportation, conservation, and smart homes. TinyML is a great educational tool as it explores topics from across the computer science and engineering curricula.
This technology’s low bandwidth and energy requirements have particular relevance for countries with limited access to energy and computing resources. However, access to this technology is currently limited in many parts of the world, particularly in the Global South. In this workshop we will focus on applications that are particularly relevant to Asian researchers and provide hands-on training on commercially available hardware.

Topics:
  • Introduction to TinyML
  • Sensors and Data Collection
  • Energy Efficiency
  • Environmental Monitoring
  • Health Monitoring
  • Agriculture Monitoring
  • Smart Cities
  • Ethics and Machine Learning

Venue: The United Nations University Institute in Macau, Casa Silva Mendes, Estrada do Engenheiro Trigo No 4, Macao SAR, China

Visa: Please check the document about Entry Visa Requirements for Macau SAR in the 'Material section'

Grants: A limited number of grants are available to support the attendance of selected participants, with priority given to participants from developing countries. There is no registration fee.
