PWF Kenya - Bio-Physics School on QM/MM Molecular Dynamics Simulations: Integrated tools for Life Sciences and Bio-Medical Applications
Starts 22 Oct 2023 08:00
Ends 3 Nov 2023 18:00
Africa/Nairobi
Moi University, Kenya
Biophysics sits at the intersection of biology, physics, and chemistry and in most Higher Education Institution (HEIs) Kenya lacks programmes and initiative that can equip learners with skills and expertise in this area, especially those that can enable them to leverage high performance computing, and machine learning to perform novel research.
The school aims to raise awareness among post-graduate students in fields such as biophysics, medical physics, and related sciences about the power of molecular dynamics, molecular me-chanics, and related approaches in understanding biological systems. By exposing students to such tools and approaches, they will be able to explore essential processes and interactions at the molecular level.
Location and Date
The school will be hosted in Moi University, Eldoret-Kenya, to run from 22nd October to 3rd November 2023.
Program
Week 1:
Day 1-2: Introduction to Linux operating system – Bash scripting
Day 3-4: Morning session - Introduction to Quantum Mechanics (QM), afternoon session -molecular mechanics (MM)
Day 5: Handson session on Quantum mechanics
Week 2:
Day 1-2: both QM and MM lectures and practice
Day 3-5: Practical with emphasis on one case
Speakers
Dr. Daniel Shadrack (Nelson Mandela African Institute of Science and Technology -Tanzania)
Dr. Lucy Kiruri (Kenyatta University – Kenya)
