DESCRIPTION:Abstract\n\n	Extending the Standard Model with a Z_N symmetry 
 and a minimal set of new fields offers an elegant and versatile framework 
 to account for the dark matter. In this talk\, I will review the theoretic
 al foundations of this approach and explore explicit models that naturally
  give rise to both WIMP and FIMP dark matter candidates. Emphasis will be
