DESCRIPTION:An ICTP-IAEA meeting\n	Many countries are exploring nuclear po
wer as a part of their future energy mix and looking towards deployment of
small modular reactors (SMRs)\, either for electricity or non-electric ap
plications. This course will cover reactor physics\, thermal hydraulics an
d plant design engineering SMRs focusing on integral pressurized water rea
ctors (i-PWR)\, modular high temperature gas-cooled reactors\, molten salt
reactors and microreactors.\n	The IAEA organizes various training courses
\, workshops and technical meetings encompassing all aspects relevant to t
he development\, deployment\, and oversight of SMRs and their applications
. The proposed workshop is part of a broader program aimed at improving un
derstanding of analytical computer codes for SMR design\, with a particula
r focus on modular HTGR types. In addition\, design engineering for nuclea
r power plants using molten salt and HTGR technologies has become an impor
tant focus\, given the global challenges posed by limited experience in co
nstructing and operating installations based on these technologies.Topics\
n\n Global scenarios for nuclear energy: discussing the roles of SMRs in
energy strategies\n	\n Status of advanced research\, design and technolog
y developments for integral PWR\, molten salt reactors\,modular high tempe
rature gas cooled reactors and microreactors\n	\n Users’ training of se
lected computer codes for design and safety analyses of modular high tempe
rature gas cooled reactors\n	\n Approaches to reactor physics and thermal
-fluid design calculations\n	\n Power plant design engineering\n	\n Non-
electric applications of SMRs\, exploring the use of SMRs for district hea
ting\, desalination\, hydrogen production\,industrial and outer space appl
ications.\n\n	Poster PresentationAs part of the application\, participants
should submit a poster abstract\, covering one of the course topics of th
eir choice. The posters will be displayed and presented in a dedicated ses
sion during the event.Participants will be given aprox. 5 minutes for thei
r presentation of their poster. The top 5 posters will be selected\, and au
thors will prepare a 10-minute slide-presentation. The lecturers and parti
cipants will vote\, and the best presenter will be announced at the closin
g of the course.Grants: A limited number of grants are available to suppor
t the attendance of selected participants\, with priority given to partici
pants from developing countries. There is no registration fee.\n	 \n\n\n/
