DESCRIPTION:The call for application is open. Please click on APPLY HERE o
n the left\, in order to submit your application\n	 \n\n	Endorsed by\n	th
e World Weather Research Programme (WWRP) and\n	the Earth System Modelling
and Observations (ESMO) Core Project of the World Climate Research Progra
mme (WCRP)\,\n	both under the World Meteorological Organization (WMO)\n\nT
he first workshop on Organisation and Maintenance of Tropical Convection a
nd the Madden Julian Oscillation was held at ICTP in March 2006. It is the
right time\, 20 years after\, to reflect the past accomplishments and les
sons learned\, identify remaining challenges\, and outline future work.\n\
 n	 \n\n	 \n\n	The workshop will address the following questions:\n\n	 \
n\n What are the current gaps in our understanding of tropical multi-scal
e organised convection\, the MJO and its global impact?\n	\n What are the
major barriers to advancing predictions of tropical multi-scale organised
convection\, the MJO and its global impact?\n	\n What would be the most
effective and efficient ways to integrate often siloed efforts of observat
ions and modeling in the study of tropical multi-scale organised convectio
n\, the MJO and its global impact?\n	\n What would be the optimal ways to
use the modern technologies of observations\, AI/ML\, and HPC to advance
information gathering\, understanding\, and model improvement of tropical
multi-scale organised convection\, the MJO and its global impact?\n\n	 \n
\n	The workshop will cover the following topics:\n\n	 \n\n Observation o
f the Madden Julian Oscillation and field campaigns\n	\n Modeling the Mad
den-Julian Oscillation (simple theoretical models\, comprehensive Earth sy
stem models\, and AI/ML models)\n	\n MJO prediction and predictability fr
om days to years\, including interaction with other modes of variability\n
 	\n MJO’s global and regional impacts \nSpeakers:\nBoualem Khouider\,
University of Victoria\n\n	Franco Molteni\, Italia Meteo\n\n	Mitchell Monc
 rieff\, NCAR (retired)\n\n	Andrew Robertson\, Columbia University\n\n	Kuni
o Yoneyama\, JAMSTEC\n\n	Grants: A limited number of grants are available
to support the attendance of selected participants\, with priority given t
o participants from developing countries. There is no registration fee.\n\
