ACCLIMATISE is a three-year project funded by Wellcome Trust
The ACCLIMATISE Hackathon 2026 is the first of an annual series, bringing together early-career scientists from partner institutions for three weeks of hands-on training in climate analysis, vector modelling, and AI applications to assess the impact of climate change on malaria in Africa.
The ACCLIMATISE Hackathon 2026 is the first in a series of annual training events designed to strengthen climate-health research capacity across Africa. This three-week immersive programme brings together early-career scientists for hands-on learning in climate science, malaria modelling, and AI applications. Participants will work collaboratively on projects based on the open-source VECTRI and OpenMalaria modelling frameworks, along with climate data downscaling and analysis, while also gaining practical experience in the deployment of weather stations and low-cost climate sensor networks. Through lectures, collaborative coding sessions, the hackathon fosters technical excellence, collaboration, and the development of climate-informed solutions for malaria control and public health.
Topics:
Climate data downscaling and analysis
Training on the use of VECTRI and OpenMalaria models
Practical insights on weather station deployment and maintenance
Speakers:
Laura Andrea Barrero Guevara, New York University, USA
Cyril Caminade, ICTP, Italy
Laurel DiSera, ICTP, Italy
Adrian Tompkins, ICTP, Italy
Participation: only upon invitation. There is no registration fee
