As part of PWF Pakistan's 2nd workshop, Dr. Amal Kasry, Chief of Basic Sciences & Engineering Natural Sciences Sector at UNESCO, will talk about opportunities for the next generation of scientists.
Abstract: This presentation explores UNESCO’s approach to advancing women’s participation in science, engineering, and emerging technologies, from education to leadership. It highlights the persistent structural gaps across the scientific pipeline, particularly in fields such as physics, engineering, and quantum technologies, where both gender and global inequalities intersect. Building on UNESCO’s work under the International Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development, the presentation showcases concrete actions, from capacity building and fellowships to policy advocacy, data, and global initiatives such as remote access to advanced infrastructure and the Global Quantum Initiative. It argues that closing the gender gap in science is not only a matter of equity, but a prerequisite for scientific excellence and innovation, and calls for collective action to move from awareness to systemic change.
