In collaboration with the ICTP Global Science Portal, the ICTP PWF Professional Development Series presents “Navigating Master’s and PhD Applications in Physics and Related Fields”, an information session designed to help students better understand the graduate application process and strengthen their applications.

The session will bring together speakers with complementary perspectives: Marco Esposito, coordinator of the ICTP/University of Trieste Master’s Programme in Medical Physics and research scientist at ICTP; Estelle Inack, a former ICTP Diploma student and SISSA graduate who is now a researcher at Perimeter Institute, yiyaniQ, and University of Waterloo;  and Joe Niemela, scientist emeritus at ICTP with extensive experience serving on academic selection committees. The session will be moderated by Natasa Stojic, co-coordinator of  Physics Without Frontiers, who will guide the discussion and facilitate the Q&A.

Topics will include how selection committees evaluate applications, common mistakes applicants make, practical advice on preparing academic CVs and statements of purpose, approaching potential supervisors, and personal reflections on applying from the Global South. The session will conclude with an open discussion and Q&A with participants.
