Scientific Calendar Event

Description

What do we really know about gender biases in science? Where do our assumptions come from, and what can institutions and individuals do to challenge them?

Unbias — a feminist collective dedicated to addressing prejudice in academia — invites you to explore these questions together through an afternoon of talks and discussion.

📅 Wednesday, 27 May 2026 | 14:00–17:00 (stay for refreshments at the end 🙂)
📍 Lagrange Lecture Hall, ICTP

Two speakers will guide us through the afternoon:

Prof. Carolina Brito (Brazilian Physics Society) through her talk -

Women in Science: Data and Reflections will ground us in the numbers — mapping the current situation of women in science across the globe — before turning to possible causes, and most importantly, to concrete ideas that institutions and individuals can act on today.

Dr. Raluca David, cognitive neuroscientist, policy researcher and writer -

No Women Up There: Women’s Science Nobels and a History of IQ will offer a historical perspective on misconceptions about women's intelligence — and expose a troubling loop: how biased assumptions have shaped and continue to shape psychological research, and how that research has in turn reinforced and continues to reinforce the very prejudices it should have challenged.

The event is hosted by ICTP and sponsored by SISSA and CUG, and is open to everyone in the community — students, researchers, and faculty alike.

We hope to see you there for a thoughtful, evidence-based conversation about the academic world we all share.

See you all on the 27th — bring your questions!
