Joint ICTP-IAEA School on Detector Signal Processing and Edge AI for Nuclear Instrumentation | (smr 4336)
Starts 13 Jan 2027
Ends 22 Jan 2027
Central European Time
San Carlos de Bariloche - Argentina
Balseiro Institute, Bariloche Atomic Centre, San Carlos de Bariloche, Rio Negro, Argentina
The call for application is open
This school is dedicated to teaching key principles of detector signal processing and edge AI using FPGA-based heterogeneous platforms, with a focus on applications in nuclear instrumentation.
Modern nuclear and particle physics experiments require online data acquisition (DAQ) systems capable of processing multiple parallel detector signals while reducing data rates and storage requirements for subsequent offline analysis. These systems combine advanced digital signal processing and machine learning for event detection and discrimination with reconfigurable computing architectures that integrate software flexibility and hardware performance.
Through lectures and hands-on sessions, participants will gain practical experience with edge AI solutions, open-source tools, and heterogeneous hardware platforms. The program equips attendees to design and deploy intelligent instrumentation for advanced scientific applications.
Topics:
Fundamentals of Nuclear and Particle Detectors
Signal Processing and Real-Time Data Acquisition
FPGA-Based Systems-on-Chip
Hardware–Software Co-Design
Reconfigurable Instrumentation
Machine Learning and Edge AI
ML Model Optimization and Compression
Heterogeneous Computing on MPSoC-FPGA
