Abstract
Textbook definitions of hydrodynamics have assumed its applicability is linked to vicinity of local thermal equilibrium. Developments in the context of ultrarelativistic nuclear collisions from the past 15-20 years showed this not a fully justified statement: hydrodynamics takes local equilibrium as the seed, but the resulting effective field theory has a wider range of applicability. In my talk I will push this perspective even further by discussing recent results that demonstrate the emergence of hydrodynamics without assuming local equilibrium and instead taking far from equilibrium phenomena of nonthermal fixed points as the effective field theory seed. Based on 2504.18754 and work in progress.
