DESCRIPTION:ICTP Associates Seminars are part personal\, part scientific\,
with speakers sharing their career trajectory and experiences\, then intr
oducing their research field and work.\nIn this seminar\, Dr. Mujtaba Hass
an\, ICTP Associate and associate professor at the Department of Space Sci
 ence\, Institute of Space Technology\, Islamabad\, Pakistan\, will discuss
his work and experiences in hydroclimatology in Pakistan.Abstract:\nIn th
is colloquium-style seminar\, I will share my journey as a hydroclimatolog
ist from Pakistan\, reflecting on the personal milestones\, challenges\, a
nd inspirations that shaped my path\, from studying physics in Sargodha to
pursuing a PhD at Tsinghua University and building an international resea
rch career. I will discuss the realities of doing science in resource-cons
trained yet climate-vulnerable regions and the transformative role of prog
rams like the ICTP Associateship. The second part will introduce the field
of high-resolution regional climate modelling and its critical importance
for understanding and adapting to climate extremes in complex terrains li
ke High Mountain Asia. I will highlight key findings from my work on the I
ndus Basin and South Asian monsoon systems\, emphasizing visual insights i
nto water security\, flood risks\, and policy-relevant science. The talk a
ims to inspire early-career researchers while fostering connections across
the ICTP community.Biography:\nDr. Mujtaba Hassan is a hydroclimatologist
with over 10 years of research and teaching experience in atmospheric and
hydrological sciences. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Depa
rtment of Space Science at the Institute of Space Technology\, Islamabad\,
Pakistan. He also serves as a Research Fellow at the University of Glasgo
w\, UK\, and a Regular Associate at the International Centre for Theoretic
al Physics (ICTP)\, Italy. His research focuses on high-resolution convect
 ion-permitting regional climate modelling\, climate extremes\, and their i
mpacts on water resources in High Mountain Asia\, particularly the Indus B
asin. He has led and contributed to multiple international research grants
\, authored numerous SCI publications\, and supervised many BS\, MS and Ph
D students. Dr Hassan’s work supports national climate resilience and di
saster preparedness efforts by improving flood forecasting and urban clima
 te analysis.Zoom registration: https://zoom.us/meeting/register/9hJpULyeTu
