DESCRIPTION:\n	ABSTRACT:\n	The cohomology of an algebraic variety carries 
 extra symmetries beyond what the underlying topological space sees. For sm
 ooth projective varieties\, these symmetries are captured by the so-called
  Hodge decomposition. When you drop the assumptions of smoothness or proje
 ctivity\, these symmetries break down in a controlled way\, recorded by a 
 notion of weight. In this talk\, we will explore these symmetries in the c
 oncrete case of curves: elliptic curves where everything works perfectly\,
  and singular or non-compact curves where the structure changes in measura
