Abstract
Symmetries and their gauging have played a pivotal role in the construction of quantum field theories describing the fundamental forces of nature. In recent years, the notion of symmetry has undergone a significant generalization with the advent of non-invertible symmetries: transformations that act non-invertibly on quantum field theories while retaining many of the hallmark features of conventional symmetries. In 1+1 dimensions, gauging such symmetries provides a vast generalisation of the familiar notion of orbifolding in CFTs.
 
In this talk, I will introduce a framework for gauging non-invertible symmetries in 2+1 dimensions. I will highlight the parallels with the 1+1-dimensional story, as well as the important new subtleties that arise in 2+1 dimensions. Finally, I will show how this procedure reveals new relations between QFTs that cannot be obtained by gauging invertible symmetries.
