ICTP announces that the 2016 Walter Kohn Prize for outstanding contributions in the field of quantum-mechanical materials and molecular modeling has been awarded to Yanming Ma of Jilin University, Changchun, P.R. China. The award ceremony will take place on Friday 13 January 2017 at 9.00 am in conjunction with the "18th International Workshop on Computational Physics and Materials Science: Total Energy and Force Methods" in the Budinich Lecture Hall, ICTP, during a special session in honour of Walter Kohn. The morning session will include contributions by Richard Martin, David Vanderbilt, Erio Tosatti, Michele Parrinello, Stefano Baroni, Sandro Scandolo, Shobhana Narasimhan. Yanming Ma's lecture will be on "Atomistic Structure Prediction via Swarm Intelligence Algorithms". The event is open to all and will also be livestreamed from the ICTP website.
