Scientific Calendar Event

Starts 6 May 2019
Ends 10 May 2019
Central European Time
ICTP
Kastler Lecture Hall (AGH)
Via Grignano, 9 I - 34151 Trieste (Italy)
The main objective of the workshop is to enhance the capability of young scientists from developing countries to analyze and document scientific issues concerning regional climate modeling and projections, allowing them to provide stronger input to international programs such as the IPCC.

As part of the CORDEX-CORE initiative, a set of regional climate change projections for continental regions worldwide are being completed with different RCMs, including the ICTP RegCM. These will be the basis for input into the upcoming IPCC report, which is based on published scientific articles. It is important that developing country scientists are directly involved in this process, and this workshop will provide a forum to exchange ideas on the analysis of the CORDEX-CORE experiments, and to plan for a series of scientific publications. The workshop will also include a special event on 30 years of Regional Climate Modeling.

Specific topics include:
  • Processes of regional climate change

  • Key issues in regional climate modeling (e.g. added value)

  • Distillation of robust information from ensembles of experiments

  • Uncertainty analysis

  • Tools for analysis of model output

  • Approaches to writing effective scientific paper
