DESCRIPTION:Speakers: ROMOLO\, Francesco (University of Bergamo\, Italy)\n
In February 2009\, the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) released its rep
ort on forensic science: Strengthening Forensic Science in the United Stat
es: A Path Forward (2009). Within three months of its publication\, Justic
e Scalia cited the report in a Supreme Court decision\, writing: “Forens
ic evidence is not uniquely immune from the risk of manipulation. . . Seri
ous deficiencies have been found in the forensic evidence used in criminal
trials.” In the USA both the Senate and the House held hearings\, and a
bill was introduced in Congress. In addition\, the President appointed a
committee on forensic science. New institutions desiring to provide new fo
rensic services needs to cope with this debate. The presentation will prov
ide the key aspects to the development of an ongoing strategic planning an
d execution process\, offering some guidance for implementation and contin
ual improvement in the provision of forensic science services.\n\n//indico
