NeQuick 2 is the latest version of the ionosphere electron density model developed by the Telecommunications/ICT for Development of the ICTP in collaboration with the Institute for Geophysics, Astrophysics and Meteorology of the University of Graz, Austria. It is a quick-run global 3D ionospheric electron density model particularly designed for trans-ionospheric propagation applications.
NeQuick has been used in several assessment studies concerning Space Weather effects on Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS). Particular attention has been devoted to the mitigation of ionospheric effects in single frequency positioning applications and a specific version of the model, the NeQuick G, has been adopted as the ionospheric correction algorithm in the European GNSS Galileo.
The proposed Workshop would allow the participants to be acquainted with the new developments of the model and its implementations. Special consideration will be devoted to NeQuick validation and its use in data ingestion and assimilation schemes adopted to retrieve global and regional 3-D ionospheric electron density specifications.
Topics:
• Model formulation
• Model validation
• Data assimilation into NeQuick
• Advances in the model formulation
• Different model uses and applications
