Description |
An ICTP Virtual Meeting
The SDSummerSchool 2021 will be held from 14th June to 2nd July. It is developed with UNDESA, IAEA, UNDP, IRENA, The World Bank Group, and the following Universities: Imperial College London, University of Oxford, Loughborough University, University of Cambridge, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, and Simon Fraser University, with the OpTIMUS community of practice, GIZ, UK Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office, and the Climate Compatible Growth (#CCG) program.
There are 5 tracks. They will focus on:
Each course has two parts: the first is an online self-paced portion that you can take at any time before the start of the second portion, and the second is a hands-on, interactive component with dedicated trainers. You will receive two certificates: one from the Open University for the self-paced portion, and one from the ICTP on successful completion of the hands-on training.
There is no fee to attend. However, competition for space is high and space is limited.
To apply you will have to demonstrate:
1. That the output of your study (which will include a policy note) is in demand by the government that you represent; or
2. That the skills, tools, and teaching material that you acquire will be used in university teaching or government planning knowledge management; or
3. That the output will fit into policy-relevant research to be published in a visible platform.
Supporting documentation for 1 and 2 will require a letter from a head of unit or higher (government) or a head of department or higher (university). (Exceptions are made for selected and ongoing technical assistance programs of participating organisations, and you will be notified via those channels.) Priority will be given to participants from countries that have a demonstrated need and ability to apply the training to policy development, and selection of participants will include considerations of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Discussion forums are available online to support you and coaching sessions will be scheduled during week 1 of the training. If you have not completed the self learning material, you will not be admitted to week 2.
In week 2 you will receive coaching and training to use the tool for a national case study. You will be expected to develop a policy note, a poster, and an 'elevator pitch' presentation for a senior decision maker.
You will present the powerpoint, poster, and policy note in week 3, and receive feedback. And be invited to a high level dialogue.
Note that participants will require a computer with stable internet access to participate in the training. It is recommended, for all tracks, that participants have at least 8 GB of RAM and a relatively new computer. Specific tracks have additional computer requirements above and beyond this minimum:
