Description An ICTP Virtual Meeting

Women remain a minority in the physics community, which can impede their career advancement. This workshop will bring together women physicists from all over the world to learn from one another's experiences and form a sense of community. In addition to talks and panel discussions, the workshop will offer training sessions on crucial non-technical skills that women physicists may otherwise have less opportunity to acquire than their male peers.

We hope the virtual format will enable participation by individuals for whom attending an in-person workshop abroad is usually challenging, even in ordinary times.

The Workshop is primarily aimed at women early in their scientific career (e.g., postdocs and junior faculty members), but applications from those at other career stages will be considered.

This is part of a continuing series of workshops at ICTP. As applications exceed capacity, applications from those who have attended a previous workshop in this series will be given lower priority.

Topics will include:
  • Keynote addresses from successful women physicists
  • Writing CVs for academic job applications
  • Giving oral presentations about one’s work
  • Writing articles for publication in peer-reviewed journals
  • The art of negotiation in an academic environment
  • Building mentor networks and finding community
  • Balancing personal and professional commitments
