ICTP will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of its Postgraduate Diploma Programme with a three-day event (mostly online) aimed at Diploma alumni who want to reconnect. The goal is to foster regional networks of alumni. The event will feature discussions on the history and the impact of the programme through the voice of the students and more in general the theme of high-level education in the developing world. The celebrations will take place from 23 to 25 August 2021.
The keynote speaker for the event will be 2020 Nobel Laureate in Physics Andrea M. Ghez, professor of physics and astronomy and Lauren B. Leichtman and Arthur E. Levine chair in astrophysics at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). She is one of the world's leading experts in observational astrophysics and heads UCLA's Galactic Center Group. She is best known for her ground-breaking work on the center of our Galaxy, which has led to the best evidence to date for the existence of supermassive black holes. Ghez earned her B.S from MIT in 1987, and her PhD from Caltech in 1992 and has been on the faculty at UCLA since 1994.
