Description
I will introduce the anisotropic Ginzburg-Landau and Lawrence-Doniach models that describe layered superfluids and superconductors, including the large class of high-Tc superconductors. I will show how these equations apply to ultracold Fermi gases in optical lattices. This allows one to find the temperature of the 3D-2D crossover where the bulk superfluid decouples into uncorrelated 2D systems. I will show how this behaviour can be explored in ultracold gases, and how to reproduce the physics of layered superconductors. I will show how the optical lttice affects the gas differently across the BEC-BCS crossover and that the most interesting behaviour is found near the unitary limit.
