Description |
2D physical systems with degenerate grounds states and excited particle states obeying exotic statistics ('anyons') provide a surprisingly effective and aesthetically appealing arena for performing quantum computation. Topological quantum computation is a rapidly expanding research area focused on the physical realisation of a quantum computer that is intrinsically fault-tolerant and decoherence free. The theoretical background needed for dealing with 'topological' systems and materials will be presented in an pedagogical way. |
