PURPOSE AND NATURE Given the continuing globalization of advanced technological development, the American Institute of Physics (AIP) and the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) have joined together with the Sao Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) and ICTP South American Institute for Fundamental Research (SAIFR) to host an Industrial Physics Forum (IPF) at UNICAMP (The University of Campinas, Sao Paulo State, Brazil). This IPF follows up on the successful Industrial Physics Forum held at ICTP, Trieste in April 2012. The goal of the IPF is to enlarge the regional impact of basic and applied research by promoting links between scientists, industry, and societal needs as a key strategy for sustainable technological advancement. The theme of the conference is "Industrial Physics in Emerging Economies" and will focus on a set of technical and policy topics closely related to scientifically driven economic development in Brazil, and throughout Latin America more generally. The conference will have a rich array of sessions, ranging from technical sessions to policy, and will include a field experience that will highlight examples of science and scientists contributing to local economic development. Technical themes will cover topics such as advanced manufacturing, energy, communications, optics, and health. There will also be the popular Frontiers of Physics talks, featuring renowned researchers who are making breakthrough scientific contributions. As part of the IPF, there will be offered a two-day short course (Oct. 2-3) on entrepreneurship for scientists, targeted at general scientific audiences, including early career scientists, post-docs, and students.

PARTICIPATION Scientists and students from all countries that are members of the United Nations, UNESCO or IAEA may attend the IPF. As the IPF will be conducted in English, participants should have an adequate working knowledge of this language. Leaders from academia, industry, government, and NGOs, as well as students and post-doctoral scientists from developed and developing countries are encouraged to attend. As a rule, travel and subsistence expenses of the participants should be borne by their home institution. Every effort should be made by candidates to secure support for their fare (or at least half-fare). Limited funds are available to support some participants, to be selected by the organizers. There is no registration fee.
