Scientific Calendar Event

Description
The Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in collaboration with the Centre International de Mathématiques Pures et Appliquées (CIMPA) and the Universidad Nacional de San Antonio Abad del Cusco (UNSAAC), is organizing an advanced school - "AGRA II: Aritmética, Grupos y Analisis" - to be held from 8 to 22 August, 2015 in Cuzco, Peru. Number theory is both one of the core areas of mathematics and a crossroads for many other disciplines. Analysis, diophantine geometry and combinatorics, among other areas, have a long history of interaction with number theory; other subjects, such as group theory and ergodic theory, are also developing often surprising connections with the field. This will be a two-week school, following the lead of the first AGRA meeting in Santiago, Chile, 2012. The main aim of the series is the development of number theory (in the broadest sense) as an area of research in South America.

SCIENTIFIC COMMITTEE: H. A. Helfgott (France), C. G. Moreira (Brazil), G. Tornaría (Uruguay).

LOCAL COMMITTEE: R. López Cruz (Peru), F. Rodriguez Villegas (Italy), O. Velásquez (Peru), G. Álvarez Juáregui (Peru).

INVITED SPEAKERS: Mikhail Belolipetsky (Brazil), Javier Cilleruelo (Spain), Antonio Córdoba (Spain), Harald Andrés Helfgott (France), Marc Hindry (France), Ricardo Menares (Chile), Roberto Miatello (Argentina), Carlos Gustavo Moreira (Brazil), Ariel Pacetti (Argentina), Marusia Rebolledo (France), Juanjo Rué (Germany), Fernando Rodríguez Villegas (Italy), Gonzalo Tornaría (Uruguay), Miguel Walsh (UK), Julia Wolf (UK), Ana Zumalacárregui (Spain).

PARTICIPATION:
Scientists and students from all countries which are members of the United Nations, UNESCO or IAEA may attend the School. While graduate students and young researchers will be the main intended audience of the school, all interested researchers and students are welcome to participate. Our goal is to fund all participants from South America fully, after a merit-based selection. Participants from elsewhere (including developed countries) are encouraged to find funding for travel from their own institutions; we will attempt to cover their local costs. There is no registration fee. The language of the school will be Spanish.
