When a fluid, close to a second order phase transition, is quenched suddenly from a high temperature to a temperature below the critical point it falls out of equilibrium and proceeds towards the new equilibrium state via a non-equilibrium dynamics known as phase separation. Presence of an inhomogeneous temperature field makes this dynamics more complex and interesting. In this direction, results for a single-component fluid will be presented from molecular dynamics simulations.
