The family of Nobel Prize winner Abdus Salam set up the Spirit of Abdus Salam Award in 2014. The award is announced annually on the occasion of the ICTP Salam Distinguished Lectures, held at ICTP during the last week of January to coincide with Abdus Salam's birthday on 29 January. The Ceremony to honour the recipients of the 2021 Spirit of Salam Award will take place on Tuesday 28 September 2021 at 14.00 hrs (CET), and will be followed by a General Staff Meeting for all ICTP Staff. The 2021 Award recipients are: Hilda Cerdeira, Argentina: For her dedication to ensuring that scientists, no matter where they live and work, have equal access to prestigious science literature. Mohamed Hassan, Sudan: For his lifelong dedication to building sustainable science in the developing world through research, education, policy and diplomacy Gregorio Medrano Asensio, Spain: For his efforts and vision to create an institute that would have overcome geographic and religious barriers to promote unity through science.
