Abstract: In this talk, we explore a technique to construct a surface S of general type, as a complete intersection of a product of two surfaces X and Y, such that the Chern numbers of X and Y control the Chern numbers of S, as well as its fundamental group. LEF line bundles are a primary tool, so we will briefly introduce them. We will show how to use LEF bundles to handle the geographical problem of populating the interval [1, 3] densely with Chern slopes of minimal surfaces of general type and a fixed fundamental group. The surfaces that solve such problems are known as Savage Surfaces. Joint work with Giancarlo Urzúa.
