Abstract:
This talk explores dead-core type problems, where certain regions within a process or reaction become inactive, forming "dead zones”. Such models are valuable for understanding phenomena like the spread of contaminants that stop after reaching specific areas or parts of a chemical reaction that slow down due to a lack of reactants. We study systems of partial differential equations, focusing on how certain properties generate a “chain reaction” effect that enhances the precision in describing the behavior at the boundaries of these inactive zones, known as free boundaries.
