This Physics Without Frontiers Online Workshop: Reading and Manipulating the LHCb Open Data invites undergraduate students and master's students in the areas of physics, mathematics, and computer science, electronic and software engineering to participate and get the opportunity to be fascinated by the experimental high energy physics of the LHCb detector. Organized in teams, students will get open data files from the LHCb experiment to study the matter antimatter asymmetry of the universe. After receiving lectures about concepts of particle accelerators, detectors and data analysis, and with the support of CERN’s scientists working on the LHCb experiment, the participants will face a Hackathon challenge where they will develop knowhow and expertise in physics but also in data science, big data, computing, detectors, among others to find the best way to optimize cuts and to achieve best efficiency. The Winner team will get support to apply to the 2025 CERN Latin-American School of High-Energy Physics (https://indico.cern.ch/event/1467690/), to be held in Costa Rica. The organizing committee of the CERN Latin-American School will select one of the members of the Winner team to participate as official or listener participant. The travel expenses should be covered by the home country. Dates: 9-18 December 2024 We are looking for students who fulfill the following criteria:
