Abstract:
In this talk, we will review the main theoretical components underlying the cosmological formation and evolution of local cosmic string networks. We will show how large-scale numerical simulations can be used to extract detailed information about the dynamics of these networks. In particular, we will focus on the evolution of cosmic string loops, highlighting recent progress in numerically tracking their full lifetimes while accounting for the gravitational backreaction from their evaporation. Building on this, we will present a framework for computing the resulting stochastic gravitational wave background, emphasizing the impact of backreaction effects. Finally, we will discuss the latest observational constraints on these models and examine the exciting prospects for testing them with current and future gravitational wave observatories.
