Tribhuvan University, Central Department of Physics
Kirtipur, Kathmandu, Nepal
This school aims to teach the advanced numerical methods in many-body systems, such as tensor networks (TNs) and density matrix renormalization group (DMRG). The program is intended for master’s level physics students in Nepal with basic knowledge of quantum mechanics, statistical mechanics, and computer programming. By providing both theoretical foundations and hands-on computational training, the program will enable students to solve quantum many-body problems and connect these techniques to concepts from quantum information science. Further, this course will teach students to write efficient code to solve problems in many-body physics.

The program includes the following topics:
• Review of quantum mechanics (states, observables, evolution), statistical mechanics (ensemble, quantum spin models, density matrix), and linear algebra (singular value decomposition, eigenvalues and eigenvectors)
• Introduction to tensors and tensor networks, Matrix product state (MPS), Matrix product operator (MPO)
• Density matrix renormalization group (DMRG)
• Time evolution: Time-evolving block-decimation (TEBD), Time-dependent variational principle (TDVP)
• Introduction to quantum computation and quantum information
