I will introduce monomer-dimer models, an example of Statistical Mechanics models on graphs characterized by hard-core interaction. A great contribution in this field was given by Heilmann and Lieb, who proved the absence of phase transitions under very general hypothesis.

In the second part of the talk I will focus on monomer-dimer models on sparse random graphs, which can be solved exactly by means of a cavity method and rigorously thanks to a family of correlation inequalites.
