The advanced school builds on the latest IPCC reports on climate change, impacts, risks and adaptation. It addresses regional climate information and the comprehensive assessment for adaptation planning and increasing risk resilience of society and ecosystems.

This will be a unique opportunity to foster a collaborative discussion across different communities, with early career scientists in particular. It will foster future research through the use of state of the art methods in climate modelling and regional climate impacts and risk assessment. Participants will gain new knowledge on how to responsibly use climate and impact model outputs to effectively inform climate policies of countries, cities and settlements, and for different sectors.

The school will include talks on hot topics, followed by afternoon hands on training sessions. It will introduce the WGI Interactive Atlas to explore the datasets assessed in the report, including exploring in a tailor-made way the syntheses of regional climate information. Communications and visual representation of regional climate, impacts and risk will be addressed, including how to generate key figures from the IPCC assessment reports.

Topics:
  • Regional climate change
  • Climatic impact drivers
  • Climate and weather extremes
  • Attribution
  • Climate change hot topics e.g. sea level rise, heat waves, wildfires
  • Climate risk framework
  • Impacts and future risks in natural and human systems
