The aim of the activity is to present a state-of-the-art of the existing experimental techniques useful to study the collective dynamics in disordered systems, to give an overview of the specific problems faced with the different techniques and to summarize the open issues in the field. The activity will consist of a 5-day working week with morning and afternoon lectures and seminars, including recent technical development and the state-of-the-art in the scattering spectroscopies commonly used to study collective excitations in disordered system: light scattering spectroscopies (time-resolved spectroscopies, extension to UV, ultra-fast correlation spectroscopy…), neutron scattering spectroscopies (TOF spectroscopies, triple axis instruments, spin echo technique), and X-ray scattering spectroscopies (inelastic X-ray scattering and nuclear resonance spectroscopy). Lectures and seminars will deal with the spectroscopic investigation of the collective dynamics in different disordered systems, such as: colloids, simple monatomic liquids, quantum fluids, liquid metals, molecular liquids, hydrogen bonded liquids, glass forming systems, undercooled liquids, glasses and materials of biological interest. The spectroscopic studies of off-equilibrium dynamics, i.e. aging and related processes in disordered materials, will also be presented.
