1. Eye and brightness. The eye will be considered in terms of resolution, brightness aspects, color, adaptation, accommodation, aberrations and basic retinal image processing. Photometric quantities will be introduced.
2. Newtonian formulas and optical systems. Gaussian optics, use of Newtonian formulas, several important optical systems will be described, including proper illumination: projector, microscope, and telescope.
3. Optical tips and tricks. In the lab, we have to solve different imaging tasks. This lecture will give some tips and tricks how to do this with simple commercial elements and how to optimize imaging with commercially available lenses.
